Unity state registers over 11,000 cases of cholera

Unity State has registered over 11,000 cases of cholera and 267 deaths since September 2024, said Biphal Gatwech, the State Minister of Information and Communication on Wednesday.

Gatwech said the state government is engaging humanitarian partners to improve Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) activities to prevent spread of cholera in the State.

 “Each family is encouraged to boil drinking water, and maintain personal hygiene,” said Gatwech who also disclosed that partners are distributing chlorine to purify drinking water.

According to data from the National Ministry of Health, the death toll from cholera has jumped from 274 to 334 as of December, 2024.

It noted that so far 19,320 cases have been recorded across the country.

Cholera has hit 28 counties in seven States out of 10 States and Three Administrative Area.
