Police arrest man for stealing 2 smartphones, SSP 156,000 in Melut

A 25-year-old man has been apprehended for robbing 2 smartphones and cash amounting to 156, 000 South Sudan Pounds from two persons in New Paloch of Melut County, Upper Nile.

Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson of the South Sudan National Police Service, said the man was apprehended on 14th Januray 2025 at around 1:00 a.m in Melut County.

“A criminal case was opened in the Paloch police station; the police are still searching for the other suspects, and the investigation is going on,” Nhial said in a summary of the security report released on Thursday.

Nhial also revealed that a 37-year-old male was found shot dead by unknown armed criminals in the forest of Acharock village of Imehejek on 14th January.

He added that another civilian not yet identified by name, was also found shot and injured with the deceased person, and their rifles were taken by the criminals.

“The motive behind the incident is expected to be counter-revenge. A criminal case was opened in the Imehejek police division, and an investigation is going on,” said Nhial.

Nhial added that a 33-year-old female fell down from a tree and died on the spot in Kangei Boma of Jur River County on 15th January at around 5:30 p.m.

“On 15th January at around 10:00 a.m, a 28-year-old male was beaten to death by an unidentified group of gangsters in the Gumbo Don-bosco residential area,” he said.

“The dead body was transported to Juba funeral home. A criminal case was initiated at the Eastern police division in Gumbo, and the investigation is going on,” said Nhial.

In addition, he said a 23-year-old female from Burundi was found dead inside her room at the Hai condom residential area on 15th Jan 2025.

“The dead body was transported to Juba funeral home, and the cause of her death isn’t yet established by the police. A criminal case was opened at the Eastern police division in Gumbo, and the investigation is going on.”

Nhial revealed that a 38-year-old male civilian was shot dead by a 29-year-old male civilian, who also reportedly injured 2 persons in Koch County on 15th January at around 7:30 p.m.

“The motive behind the incident is counter-revenge, and the suspect managed to escape. A criminal case was initiated in the Koch County police division, and the investigation is going on,” he said.

On 15th January, at around 9:00 a.m, a fight erupted between youths called New Generation and Old Generation in Ohutok village of Imehejek, whereby a 48-year-old male was beaten and injured on his head by a 37-year-old male with a stick.

Nhial said the victim was referred to Torit hospital for medical treatment, and police launched a search for the whereabouts of the suspect.
