At least 16 Sudanese nationals were killed in riots across 4 States in the country, said police sources on Monday.
Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, Spokesperson of the South Sudan National Police Service said in a statement that the deaths occurred last week in Central Equatoria State, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Western Bahr El Ghazal State and Upper Nile State.
“The general security situation in the course of that week was a bit chaotic following a dreadful massacre of South Sudanese in Sudan, Al Gezira State, Wad Medani city by the Sudan Armed Forces which angered unidentified South Sudanese to impose punishment against the Sudanese nationals living in the Republic of South Sudan,” said Nhial.
He said that the police service managed to rescue and evacuated to safer areas a total of 829 Sudanese national, of which 551 are being hosted in the C.I.D main premise, and 278 in Central Equatoria State’s police premise.
Nhial added that undisclosed number of Sudanese nationals was also rescued by police in the States.
He said that there were limited cases looting of Sudanese- owned shops in Central Equatoria State, Warrap State, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State and Jonglei State, adding that many perpetrators were apprehended as investigation is ongoing.
“This morning the process of transferring and transporting those registered as refugees to Gorom started in police premises in Buluk and further details will follow soon,” said Nhial.
Nhial assured the public that the police will continue to deploy it’s forces in the main markets as well as routinely patrol residential areas to prevent crimes, maintain order and ensure the safety of both nationals and foreign nationals.
