Rumbek Central County business community commends government for security

The business community in Lakes state on Tuesday commended the State government led by Governor Rin Tueny Mabor for ensuring security for traders, in contrast to other neighboring States where shops were looted during the recent riots.

The business community in Lakes state on Tuesday commended the State government led by Governor Rin Tueny Mabor for ensuring security for traders, in contrast to other neighboring States where shops were looted during the recent riots.

Moses Dok Malou, the Chairman for Rumbek central county Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, told The Dawn on Tuesday, that the situation remains calm in Lakes State with no reported incident of looting Sudanese owned shops.

He also noted that there were no attacks or killings of Sudanese nationals in the State.

Angry rioters on January 16, attacked and vandalized including looting shops owned by Sudanese nationals in Juba, Aweil and Tonj South areas of the country.

The riots were sparked by the killings of South Sudanese nationals in Wad Medani, Al Jazirah State in Sudan on January 11, by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers after the recaptured Al Jazirah from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Abuod Maker Maduldit, a business man said that shops remain open across Rumbek town in the wake of the curfew imposed by State authorities aimed at controlling movement of people in the town.

 He said security forces continue to patrol markets in order to deter vandals.

Meanwhile, Altieb Adam Yagoub, the Chairperson of the Darfur community in Rumbek applauded the friendship of the sisterly countries, and commended the government for protecting all their businesses.

In addition, Malou said the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and agriculture under his leadership are set to hold general assembly meeting of business people this week to agree on reduction of the current high prices of goods in the markets in Rumbek Central County.
