The South African government donated on Thursday a Toyota Prado to the National Election Commission (NEC), which will support the Commission’s preparatory activities for the upcoming 2026 elections.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the Chairperson of the National Election Commission, Prof. Abednego Akok Kacuol, expressed gratitude to the South African government and the South African Ambassador to South Sudan, Mahlodi Muofhe, for their generous contribution.

“We are delighted to receive this gift today; we thank the South African Ambassador for the support and effort made on behalf of the government,” said Kacuol.

He urged the South African government to continue offering assistance as the Commission prepares for the 2026 elections.

“We hope our African brothers and sisters will join us in ensuring the elections are conducted freely, fairly, and smoothly,” said Kacuol.

Meanwhile, the South African Ambassador to South Sudan, Mahlodi Muofhe said the donated vehicle would aid the Commission in its crucial work leading up to the national elections.

“It gives me great pleasure to donate this Toyota Prado on behalf of the South African government. This gesture is a token of goodwill to help the Commission fulfil its mission in preparing for the elections in 2026,” he disclosed.

Muofhe noted the widespread desire among South Sudanese citizens for elections, adding that this contribution from the South African government will assist the Commission in taking the necessary steps towards organizing democratic elections.

In addition, the Secretary General of the National Election Commission, Bol Deng Majok, highlighted the timing of the donation, calling it a critical support for the Commission’s on-going preparations.

“This generous donation comes at a crucial time as we approach the start of voter registration and civic education. The vehicle will help our officials travel throughout the country to engage with citizens and raise awareness about the upcoming elections,” said Majok.

Majok expressed optimism about working closely with the South African Embassy and other international partners to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair, transparent, and peaceful manner.

“The National Election Commission is committed to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power and the successful implementation of the 2026 elections,” he said.
