"We Dare where others fear"

A community Center providing financial support to victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was launched on Friday in Juba.
The center supervised by Star Trust Organization is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and also supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Program Coordinator for Star Trust Organization, Binza Joel, said that they are targeting to train about 300 female victims of GBV in business, financial management and record keeping.
“We are as well supporting 560 women with legal aid and protection, gender-based violence protection and creating awareness on GBV issues in Juba, we are operating in market areas in Gudele, Kubri Haboba, Jebel and in Konyokonyo market,” said Joel during workshop on combating GBV in Juba.
James Dak Karlo, Director for Special Protection Unit and Child Affairs in the South Sudan National Police Service, said they working with partners such as Star Trust Organization in a bid to prevent gender-based violence, domestic violence, and forced marriage.
Karlo said their main work is to investigate and try cases related to gender based violence and domestic violence.
The Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in Central Equatoria State, Peter Butili, welcomed the establishment of the community center, adding that the loans to be provided to the women from the center will empower them economically.
“The center will also provide services for women who are victims of gender- based violence,” said Butili.
