The latest crime summary report released by the South Sudan National Police Service reveals a sharp drop in crimes compared to last week when nearly 18 deaths occurred due to riots across the country.
Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson of South Sudan National Police Service noted on Friday that 6 deaths were recorded between January 21st to 23rd.
“The general security situation is relatively calm and stable countywide for the last 3 days. The States and Administrative areas registered offences mostly criminal cases and isolated offences that are related to social violence. However, the rate of crimes dropped down today than the previous days,” said Kassara.
He said that on 21st January, a police officer from the Directorate of Diplomatic Police Unit shot himself to death inside Amaal Express Forex at Konyo-Konyo Market.
Kassara said that the motive behind the suicide has not yet been established by the police, adding that a criminal case was opened at the Central police division.
He also noted that a 30 -year -old male civilian was shot dead on January 21st by unidentified armed criminal between Poktap and Pajun village of Duk Padiet County.
Kassara disclosed a 10 -year -old child died in Gol village, Gogrial East County on January 21st, after a tree that was being cut fell on him. He added that a criminal case has been opened at Gogrial East County police station.
“On January 21st at around 3:00 p.m, a sectional fighting erupted between Atok clan and Lian clan in Abor-long village of Tonj North County and the incident resulted into the killing of 2 persons and injured 2 other persons on both sides of the conflict. A criminal case was initiated at Gogrial East County police station and the investigation is going on to find out the cause of the conflict,” he said.
He also said that police in Eastern Equatoria State apprehend a 35 year old male suspect in Torit who was accused of killing a medical doctor in Bentiu earlier this month.
Kassara said the suspect was transported to Juba and later to Unity State for further legal processes.
On January 22nd, a Sergeant from the South Sudan People’s Defense Force Engineering Corps was killed by unknown criminals and his body was taken by his unit for burial.
Kassara said that the motive behind the murder has not yet been established by the police, adding that a criminal case has been opened at Mangalla payam police station as investigations continue.
In addition, he said that unidentified person was found injured by criminals in Gudele residential area on January 22nd. He noted that the case was reported to Gudele police division.
Kassara revealed that a 45- year -old lady was assaulted to death by a 36 –year- old male civilian on January 22nd in Maan-Aguei village, Wunrok payam of Twic County. He said that the motive behind the murder remains pending as investigations into the incident are ongoing.
He said the suspected killer was arrested and he will be transported from Wunrok to Turalei
Kassara also said that a Sergeant Major from the SSPDF Garrison in Nasir County sustained gunshot wound in his leg on January 23r, when a group of White Army youth shot in the air while they were celebrating a new song composed by artist Gordon Koang in Nasir County.
