"We Dare where others fear"

The Executive Director for the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani has urged the government to unblock Facebook and TikTok after they were blocked last week by the National Communication Authority (NCA).
“We would like to appeal to you as authorities of the National Communication Authority, to ensure that we have a middle ground on how to use Facebook and TikTok for easing communication with South Sudanese who are trapped in the Sudan violence,” said Yakani on Sunday in a statement.
The decision to block the two social media platforms followed recent deadly riots triggered by the killings of South Sudanese nationals by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and their allied forces on January 11, in Wad Medani, Al Jazirah State in Sudan.
Yakani urged the government to enable members of the public to amplify the voices of South Sudanese caught up in ongoing fighting between the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
‘We have heard of South Sudanese who are caught up in the deadly violence in Sudan, complaining that they are now unable to communicate with their family members and authorities in South Sudan for their safety, security and protection,” he said.
Yakani urged the public to avoid inciting hate speech, and spreading hostile propaganda and disinformation, adding that some South Sudanese journalists have been seen inciting the masses through Facebook or TikTok.
“Please let’s take responsibility as South Sudanese and Sudanese in South Sudan to use social media for the good purpose of promoting peace and preventing violence among citizens of the two sisterly countries,” said Yakani.
