As the Azande Kingdom gears up to celebrated its 3rd Anniversary, set for February 7, 2025, women from across the kingdom are taking up key roles in preparation for the event to be held in Yambio.

The highlight of the celebration will be on February 9, 2025, when key ceremonies, including the laying of the foundation stone of the kingdom, will take place.

In preparation, women gathered at the kingdom’s palace to organize and assign themselves various responsibilities.

Juliana Michael Katawa, head cook for the event, on Sunday expressed her enthusiasm for the role given to her, saying that being appointed for such a role comes once in a lifetime.

“This opportunity given to me is an honor. I will work hand-in-hand with my fellow women to ensure everyone attending the celebration is served well without any problem, we want to work well and serve  all people because the event will not be attended by only Azande people but all tribes will be on ground,” said Katawa.

Suzy Zangabeyo, headwoman of Akorogbodi 1 residential area, shared her gratitude and thanked the women for their collaborative spirit during the preparation for the fete.

“We have organized ourselves into different teams. Some will handle program documentation, others will protect food stores, ensure food safety, and manage financial contributions,” said Zangabeyo.

“On that day, we will prepare traditional dishes for everyone to enjoy. Invited guests will also have the opportunity to purchase some and take them home, even to international destinations,” she added.

The celebration, starting February 7, 2025, will include various activities, such as educating local leaders about traditional norms. The festivities will culminate on February 9, with the laying of the grand foundation stone ceremony, symbolizing the kingdom’s continued growth and unity.

The women of the Azande kingdom have shown remarkable leadership and commitment in ensuring that the 3rd Anniversary celebration will be both memorable and culturally rich.
