The government of Central Equatoria State has directed the Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare to form a committee aimed at carrying out sensitization on trauma healing in the State.
The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, Leone Abe Brown, said on Tuesday that the committee tasked with raising awareness and providing support for trauma healing in the community would work in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Juba City Council, and Juba County.
Abe highlighted the growing number of mysterious deaths across Juba and other parts of Central Equatoria state, which has prompted the need for such an initiative.
“There are increasing cases of unknown and rampant deaths in Juba and other parts of the State, hence there is a pressing need for trauma healing,” said Abe.
“Among some of the resolutions passed today by the security committee includes tasking the security committee leadership with visiting hotspots of insecurity across Juba and other parts of the State at least once a month,” he added.
The meeting also addressed on going issues of land conflict, with a resolution passed to reactivate a land committee to resolve disputes.
Furthermore, a plan to clear street vendors from major streets in Juba was discussed.
The meeting was chaired by Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani of Central Equatoria State. At least four people committed suicide in January 2025 due to trauma across the country
