The King of the Azande Kingdom, His Majesty Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue, has issued a call to the youth to actively mobilize cultural songs, food, and traditional attire in preparation for the highly anticipated 3rd Anniversary celebrations of the Kingdom in Yambio.
Speaking to a large gathering of youths, community leaders, chiefs, and women groups at the Royal Palace in Bazungua on Monday, King Peni emphasized the need for the entire community to come together and celebrate Azande culture on February 7, 2025.
“As we approach the anniversary, it is essential that we wear our cultural attire to honor our rich traditions and the spirits of our ancestors,” said the King.
He underscored that the celebration would be a time to reflect on the values and heritage that define the Azande people.
Peni urged women to embrace traditional styles of dress, particularly emphasizing the importance of wearing cultural garments and avoiding trousers.
He also highlighted the significance of this cultural expression, encouraging the community to preserve the customs passed down through generations.
“In preparation for the anniversary, I ask that all Azande youths wear the cultural caps and carry bags, and that we use traditional pots instead of modern items or white clothing. This will ensure that the celebration remains deeply rooted in our heritage,” said Peni.
The King also provided an update on the organizing efforts, explaining that the committee is already working hard to ensure that the anniversary event will be a full cultural experience.
“All the songs, food, and items at the anniversary will be drawn from Azande culture. No outside food will be allowed, as we want to showcase and celebrate our own culinary traditions,” he disclosed.
Peni further called on the Azande community, especially the youth, to actively prepare and contribute to the event by organizing and providing cultural songs, poems, dances, and traditional games.
The King emphasized that these contributions would not only enrich the anniversary but also help ensure that the younger generation remains engaged with their cultural roots.
