"We Dare where others fear"

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said that it will continue to support the government to access climate financing to mitigate climate induced disasters.
“UNDP continues to work with the government of South Sudan to access more financing to address climate change, and make sure that we expand to other areas. UNDP remains a strategic partner for the people of South Sudan,” said Daniel Kiir, Team Leader of the UNDP Stabilization, Recovery and Resilience Unit on Tuesday during a workshop on climate financing in Juba.
Kiir emphasized the need for collaboration with partners in developing projects, adding that they have four projects running on climate change and biodiversity in Terekeka and Kapoeta counties.
He also revealed plans to extend such projects to Jonglei and Unity states which are often impacted by climate induced disasters such as flooding.
“We cannot only target two counties in the country; we want to upscale it to the whole nation, so that all our people will be resilient to climate change, especially those who are in prone areas. So we are working on more projects that are coming with the African Development Bank,” said Kiir.
Kiir also disclosed that they are in partnership with the Green Climate Fund to ensure South Sudan’s government gains access to climate finances.
Francis Harold Kisangu, Senior Project Manager for World Vision International said his organization mainly targets populations in rural areas that are vulnerable to climatic shocks to alleviate their suffering.
“There are communities that are being hit by adverse effects of the climate change. So we are there to assist and work with them. I would like to just appreciate the support that we are getting from both the government of South Sudan and even UNDP,” said Kisangu.
