The government announced on Friday the setting up of an adhoc committee to investigate the recent plan crash that killed 20 people on board in Unity State.
The Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth, said the committee was formed by the Minister of Transport, Madut Biar.
“It was mentioned that this plane was carrying 19 passengers and two pilots. All these people died except one survivor, so the Minister of Transport had set up an investigation committee, and this committee must have left this morning for Bentiu to go on a fact finding mission and also collect the black box and the voice recorder, so that when this voice recorder and the black box are brought, they will be taken to the manufacturer so that they analyze what had happened there,” said Makuei while briefing journalists in Juba.
Makuei said that the committee is comprised of South Sudanese and the manufacturers of the plane including representatives of the chartered plane.
The plane that crashed on Wednesday was chartered by the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) and operated by Light Air Services Aviation Company.
Among the killed were South Sudanese, two Chinese nationals and one Indian
Makuei said cabinet sent condolences to the relatives of the victims, adding that the Minister of Transport was directed to ensure that all planes entering or operating in South Sudan are inspected to ensure they are in good condition.
“It was noted that some of the planes that come into South Sudan are not really in good condition, they are not airworthy, and they come to South Sudan. So the Minister is directed to take utmost care and make sure that whatever plane that comes to South Sudan is in good condition,” he said.
