President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Sunday left Juba for the United Arab Emirates on a diplomatic mission.

Presidential Press Secretary, Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel said President Kiir is expected to hold talks with UAE leaders during his three-day visit to Dubai.

“The visit is in line with ongoing efforts to consolidate relations with Emirati investors, who have an interest in investing in South Sudan’s agricultural, mining, and health sectors,” said Martin in a statement issued on Facebook page of the president’s office.

She disclosed that visit also aims to outline the next steps for advancing these partnerships and projects.

President Kiir was seen off at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who has now been left as the acting head of state, as well as other senior government officials.

On November 24, 2024, President Salva Kiir and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, met in Juba to discuss ways to explore bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance ties between the UAE and South Sudan across several fields.

Both sides further affirmed their mutual commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the existing partnership between the two countries to achieve their shared interests.
