The Eastern Equatoria State parliamentary caucus in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly on Thursday called for the immediate evacuation of cattle herders following recent fighting that left 41 people killed in Nyolo Village, Magwi County.
Julius Ajeo Moiling, Chairperson of the parliamentary caucus urged the Dinka Bor cattle herders to move out of Eastern Equatoria State to pave way for the implementation of the Presidential executive order issued in 2017 that called on the cattle herders to evacuate from greater Equatoria region.
“We demand in unequivocal terms that the hordes of heavily armed Dinka Bor herders go back to their state, and stop the deliberate violation of the presidential orders and the resolutions of the governors’ forum instructing cattle owners to move out animals from Equatoria region,” said Moiling at a press conference in Juba.
Grace Abalang, Member of Parliament representing Ikwotos County, said that people were last week killed in cold blood in Ayii, Chomboro and Agoro village in Magwi County.
Abalang revealed that schools, youth centers and health centers were torched during the clashes between pastoralists and settled local communities in these villages.
“We want to condemn this in the strongest terms possible and we are asking our brothers from Dinka Bor to evacuate their cattle move immediately to Jonglei State,” she said.
Abalang disclosed that 26 local residents were killed in the fighting and 14 are from Lofriha village, adding that unknown number of people is still unaccounted for.
Betty Ogwaro, Member of Parliament representing Magwi County, said several people have been displaced in the aftermath of the violence.
“It is true at the moment people are not yet fully accounted for because some are still in the bushes, and some have reached Magwi but I can tell you the whole of Nyolo village, the whole of Chomboro village, and the whole of Agoro village are displaced and their houses were burnt,” said Ogwaro.
