The announcement was made by Nebil Mahdi, the Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan during a sendoff ceremony for the students held at the Ethiopian Embassy in Juba.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mahdi said that South Sudanese and Ethiopians share the same culture and also have a shared bond forged during decades of the struggle for South Sudan’s independence.

“We have a lot of Ethiopians here and they feel at home, and we have a lot of South Sudanese in Ethiopia,” said said Mahdi.

He disclosed that the total number of scholarships offered to Juba have reached 600.

James Maduot, a beneficiary of the scholarship said he hopes to put the knowledge and skills acquired to help contribute towards the development of South Sudan.

“I am grateful for the support and investment in our education, and I express sincere gratitude for providing us this opportunity to study in Ethiopia,” said Maduot .

Thuch Lam Liem, the Director General for Training and External Relations in the Ministry of Higher Education, appreciated the Ethiopian government for offering the scholarships.

“We extend our gratitude and thank the Federal Republic of Ethiopia for the scholarships. TVET for our students is very important,” said Liem.
