UNICEF welcomes new Country Representative to South Sudan

The government on Tuesday received the credentials of Ms. Noala Skinner, the new United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Country Representative to South Sudan.

The government on Tuesday received the credentials of Ms. Noala Skinner, the new United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Country Representative to South Sudan.

  Skinner presented her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc in Juba, according to a statement issued by UNICEF. 

The statement said that Skinner reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment strengthen partnerships in advancing the rights of every child in South Sudan.

“This is a critical time for South Sudan. My heart is with the thousands of vulnerable children, mothers, young people and families affected by the recent outbreak of cholera, as well as those impacted by recurring flooding across the country,” said Skinner.

It noted that Skinner provides strategic leadership to UNICEF’s work to improve essential social services for children, including child health and nutrition, access to quality education, safewater, and the protection of children and young women.

UNICEF said that Skinner will also lead work on an increased focus on the climate crisis and humanitarian needs under the leadership of the government of South Sudan. 

 “UNICEF’s work is supported by a passion for and commitment to children’s rights; working in partnership with the Government, line ministries, partners and children and young people in health systems strengthening, access to education, child protection, WASH, and nutrition,” she said

UNICEF disclosed readiness to continue support for the government of national unity in prioritizing and delivering short- and long-term social services, adding this support will complement government efforts to provide humanitarian support to those most impacted by crises and ongoing development efforts. 

A United Kingdom national, Ms. Skinner brings over 25 years of experience in international development, leadership, and partnerships, including serving as UNICEF Representative to Zambia, Rwanda, and Montenegro and Director of UNICEF’s Partnership Office with the European Union.

Her most recent assignment before South Sudan was as Deputy Regional Director for UNICEF in South Asia, based in Kathmandu,Nepal.
