At least 13 students from Mandela Secondary School in Yambio are receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries on Thursday in a motor accident along Saura road.
The incident occurred when the tire of the vehicle they were traveling in punctured.
According to Maj.Gen Hussein Girisi, Director of the South Sudan National Police Service in Western Equatoria State, said the vehicle was overloaded with 14 passengers.
“All the students of Mandela Secondary school Yambio including the driver are getting treatment at Yambio state hospital, they will be well and resume their classes,” said Girisi.
The students were on their way to a funeral in Nzara for one of their four classmates, who were shot dead on Tuesday along Nzara-Ringasi Road.
Girisi urged drivers to avoid overloading vehicles and exceeding speed limits, emphasizing that sports cars are designed for slow movement within town areas.
“Here in Yambio, we don’t have tarmacked roads where people can go over speeding, our roads have pot holes,” he said.
Girisi advised all motorists to renew their licenses to avoid legal issues.
“This year our traffic police is working hand in hand with road users to prevent accidents in Yambio, and all motorists are respecting the road safety, this year we registered only three cases of accident which were not serious ,” said Girisi.
