The Commissioner of Juba County, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, has urged both Muslims and Christians to uphold religious values and foster peaceful coexistence in their communities.
Speaking at the Eid al-Fitr prayers in Gudele yesterday, Tete encouraged believers to utilize social media as a tool to spread messages of unity rather than division.
The call for peace and religious tolerance comes at a time when South Sudan continues to face challenges related to ethnic and religious divisions.
“I appeal to all believers, both Muslims and Christians, to embrace unity and tolerance. Let us use social media as a platform to promote peace and religious coexistence in our communities,” said Tete.
He expressed concern over the increasing misuse of social media, where people spread hate speech instead of messages of peace and harmony.
Tete urged religious followers to refrain from engaging in divisive online rhetoric and instead use digital platforms to advocate for tolerance and respect.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Equatoria State Islamic Council, Sheikh Abdo Amin, emphasized the significance of good morals and behaviour during the Eid celebrations.
“Eid al-Fitr is a time for reflection and righteousness. As Muslims, we should demonstrate good character and uphold moral values,” said Sheikh Amin.
He also called upon the Muslim community to pray for lasting peace in both South Sudan and Sudan, stressing the importance of unity and national stability.
“Let us seek Allah’s guidance and pray for lasting peace in our country and in Sudan, so that our people can live in harmony,” said Amin.
Eid al-Fitr prayers held in Luri Payam, brought together Muslims from various parts of Juba County to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Worshippers gathered to seek Allah’s blessings and guidance for themselves, their communities and their nation.
