The University of Juba on Saturday launched its first Alumni Association.
The executive leadership of the Alumni Association was elected during the general assembly meeting held at the University of Juba.
Joseph Africano, undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, was elected as chairperson of the Alumni Association, deputized by Sarah Cleto, former Governor of Western Equatoria State. Dr. Ajak Makor was elected as Secretary General, Ms. Rebecca James as Secretary of Social & Welfare, Stanislaus John as Secretary of Information & External Relations, and Pauline Machot as Secretary of Finance.
Speaking during the ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. Robert Mayom Deng, promised to work closely with the Association to play its rightful role in supporting the university.
“I was deeply honored yesterday to witness the historic first-ever General Assembly Meeting of the University of Juba Alumni, where they elected the Executive Leadership of the Alumni Association,” said Mayom.
Mayom said they are looking forward to building a united alumni network and shaping a brighter future.
“This leadership team will strengthen alumni connections, advance the university’s mission, and foster social cohesion. Together, we look forward to building a united alumni network and shaping a brighter future.”
According to the University of Juba Alumni Association and the Working Group of the Electoral Committee, the seven-member committee will govern the association for a one-year term.
It is tasked with drafting the constitution and policies of the Association, registering members, establishing a central database, and reaching out to all members across the country and beyond.
The event was graced by Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. Robert Mayom Deng, and Prof. Abraham Matoc, Vice Chancellor of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology.
