"We Dare where others fear"
Several people including civil society activists are irked over the announcement that the visit of the Ugandan leader Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was majorly about trade and commerce.
South Sudanese expected the visit to be part of efforts to de-escalate the tensions and the ongoing violence in parts of the country.
Despite this, we would like to assure that the presence of the AU Council of the Wise will result into fruitful results.
President Museveni being one of the peace guarantors could have opted to negotiate behind the curtain for reasons known to him.
The situation in South Sudan remains fluid, and needs immediate mediation to prevent it from escalating beyond control.
We urge President Kiir and his First Vice President Riek Machar to hold face-to face talks to agree on the next steps as far as the status of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan is concerned.
Some observers have already said the peace deal is dead and needs resuscitation. Time is quickly running out to save the deal from collapsing.
A country such as South Sudan which is mired in economic hardship cannot afford to slide into war, as this would be suicidal.
