Government signs 15- year license with MTN South Sudan

The South Sudan National Communication Authority (NCA) together with MTN South Sudan have signed a 15- year license that will enable the telecom company operate in the country.

 “This milestones reflects confidence in our regulatory progress, the new License replaces outdated terms and introduces obligations to improve services quality, expand coverage and drive innovations,” said Napoleon Adok Gai, the Director General for the National Communication Authority on Friday in juba

Gai revealed that the license issued to MTN South Sudan includes improving quality of services, extending coverage and delivery of innovative services to customers across the country.

He noted that the previous license for MTN contained clauses specific to Sudan, adding that the new license will now have obligations that comply within the laws of South Sudan.

 Gai appreciated the board of directors of NCA and also the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth, for providing guidance on the negotiated terms and conditions.

The signing was witnessed by Prof. John Akec, the Chairperson Board of Directors of NCA, Yolanda Cuba, MTN Group Regional Vice President for Southern and Eastern Africa and Ali Monzer, CEO of MTN South Sudan.
