Authorities in Juba County in collaboration with City Link Company are set to bring their large-scale clean-up campaign to Gumbo Sherikat this week, targeting the area as part of broader efforts to reduce waste and fight potential cholera outbreaks in the County.
Speaking to the media over the weekend, the Commissioner of Juba County, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, announced the schedule during the official launch of the county-wide initiative.
“Our clean-up efforts will continue in phases, and next week we’ll be focusing on Gumbo Sherikat and nearby communities,” Tete said.
The campaign, already active in areas such as Hai Referendum and Kubri Haboba, is designed to clear accumulated waste from residential zones and public spaces while also laying the groundwork for future beautification projects.
“This isn’t just about removing garbage. We’re working toward long-term environmental improvement across roads, markets, and government institutions,” Tete disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of City Link, Stephen Lomully Martin, reaffirmed their commitment to delivering quality service.
“We at City Link are a local company specialising in various services, including waste management,” he said.
“We are here to help Juba County address its waste challenges. We understand the roads are heavily littered, with waste even dumped in the middle of the streets. Our goal is to clean up and maintain the environment,” Martin said.
He revealed that City Link will spearhead the operations on the ground and has committed to delivering consistent services in Gumbo and beyond.
“We have seen the impact of uncontrolled litter. Gumbo, like many parts of the county, deserves a clean and healthy environment, and we’re ready to help make that happen,” Martin said
The Gumbo cleaning campaign will be part of the county’s larger strategy to promote public health and sustainable urban living in the face of growing waste management challenges.
