Bahr El Ghazel University lecturers refuse to supervise exams over unpaid allowances

The academic staff association at the University of Bahr El Ghazel on Wednesday refused to supervise supplementary and substitute examination over unpaid allowances.

Joseph Lual Dario, chairperson of the academic staff association, told The Dawn that they are demanding food allowances for two weeks and fuel to light the examination rooms.

 “If they want the examination to continue, they have to bring other people but not us because we have not been paid and we are not given any services,” Lual said.

Lual disclosed that more than 500 lecturers have not been paid their food allowances, adding that each lecturer is entitled to 7,000 South Sudanese Pounds for meal per day.

He also said that they are demanding 13,500,000 SSP for services in nine colleges at the university which include marking incentives of the 2024 second semester examination and salaries of March for newly recruited staff.

 Lual revealed that the lecturers have been supervising substitute and supplementary examination since last week.

Erneo Bernardo Ochi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bahr El Ghazal in a written note on Tuesday to the academic staff and students said the examination will continue according to the scheduled time table.

“I am hereby, giving this directive to all teaching staff and students that the exams are going on according to the scheduled time table. Any person who resists this order will be responsible for himself or herself,” Ochi said.
