The Acting Governor of Western Equatoria State Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, on Wednesday commended the Bangladesh peacekeeping force for their dedicated service in Tombura County.

Tombura County has been experiencing ethnic violence since mid-2021, causing displacement of thousands of civilians, who are currently staying near UN temporary bases.

“It is important for patrols to reach communities so that civilians feel protected and confident. Peace must be experienced by the people,” Badagbu said during a courtesy visit paid to him by the Bangladesh peacekeepers at the State Secretariat in Yambio.

Badagbu praised the Bangladesh peacekeeping force for promoting human rights, protecting vulnerable groups and rebuilding trust at the grassroots level.

He also revealed that he has communicated with Alfred Futuyo Karaba, former Governor Western Equatoria State to ensure his safe return to Yambio.

Futuyo, was fired by President Salva Kiir on February 10, 2025, leading to outbreak of renewed fighting between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in opposition (SPLA-IO) and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.

Col. M.D Shamsul Alam, Senior Military Observer from the Bangladesh peacekeeping contingent reiterated their commitment to promoting peace, protection of civilians and collaboration with local authorities.

“We need your full support, especially during patrols, as challenges on the ground can hinder our work,” Alam said, underscoring the need for enhanced cooperation with the state government.
