The Governor of Jonglei state Dr. Riek Gai Kok has urged the people of Twic East County to embrace peaceful coexistence and cohesion with neighboring communities.

“Here in Twic East, we need to be exemplary, we must strengthen unity within the county and we also have to ensure that peace and stability exist between Twic East and the neighboring counties,” Kok said during a visit to Panyagor.

Deng Dau Deng, a member of parliament representing Twic East County in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) said Twic East County is severely affected by heavy floods.

“We have issues in Twic East, the floods have displaced many people, we have people in Mangala of Central Equatoria State, we have people in Guolyar of Lakes State and we have many others in neighboring Uganda,” Deng said.

He urged the governor of Jonglei State to garner support from the transitional government of national unity in order to help address key challenges including dyke construction in Twic East County.

“We have serious issue with the dykes, if they are repaired today, they break the next day, we need the dykes to be strengthened and we also have 11.8 km road that needs to be connected so that people engage in development,” Deng said.

Governor Kok on his visit to Panyagor met with Juac Arok Juach, the Commissioner of Twic East County, traditional chiefs, youth and women from different areas to get solutions to the dire challenges ranging from food insecurity to conflict.
