President Salva Kiir Mayardit directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday to take a proactive role in restoring and enhancing the country’s image on the global stage.

The President made this announcement during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Akuei Bona Malual.

In a statement posted on the presidential press unit’s Facebook page, Kiir emphasized the importance of effective diplomacy and pledged his full support for strengthening the foreign service.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba reiterated his commitment to collaborating with his team to promote a more positive and accurate representation of South Sudan abroad.

For his part, Akuei Bona Malual, a seasoned diplomat and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2016-2023), pledged to leverage his experience to enhance the ministry’s performance.

Senior government officials at the event expressed optimism that Akuei’s extensive diplomatic background will contribute to advancing South Sudan’s foreign policy objectives and restoring the country’s international image.
