The South Sudan National Police Service has reported four deaths and three injuries within three days across the country.
Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesman for the South Sudan National Police Service, characterized the overall security situation as relatively “calm,” despite some instances of violence resulting in fatalities and injuries.
“On 3rd May 2025, at around 11:00 a.m., a 37-year-old civilian was shot dead by a 34-year-old civilian in Pub Payam of Mayom County, Unity State. The motive behind the murder was counter-revenge,” Nhial stated on Tuesday.
Koang indicated that a criminal case was initiated in the Mayom County police division, and the investigation is ongoing. He added that the states and administrative areas have reported various offenses, mostly criminal cases and isolated incidents.
“On 4th May , at around 9:00 a.m., unknown armed criminals from the Misseriya nomads shot two people dead and injured another in the Kol-Bol residential area of Abyei,” Koang said, noting that a criminal case has been initiated in the Abyei police division.
Nhial revealed that a 34-year-old corporal from the wildlife service was shot and injured in both legs on 4th May 2025 by unknown armed criminals in Torit. He added that the victim, whose case is open in the Torit police division, is currently receiving medical treatment at Torit Teaching Hospital.
Nhial also reported that a 40-year-old woman passed away at midday on 5thMay in her garden in Diabiyo Payam of Ezo County, Western Equatoria State, after eating a mango fruit. The cause of her death is under investigation by the Diabiyo police division.
“On 5th May , at around 9:30 p.m., a warrant officer shot and injured a 20-year-old male civilian in Hai Malakia of Terekeka County. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the accused warrant officer was arrested; the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
