The former Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA),Napoleon Adok Gai, welcomed his dismissal on Friday.

He expressed gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the opportunity to serve in his government.

Kiir, in a decree announced on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Friday night, removed Adok from his position after four years and replaced him with Gieth Kon Mathiang.

The NCA is the most powerful regulatory body overseeing South Sudan’s telecommunications and internet sectors.

In a Facebook post, Adok expressed his gratitude for serving under Kiir’s leadership.

“It has been an honor to serve in this role for the past four years, and I am grateful to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit for entrusting me with the opportunity to contribute to our nation’s development,” Adok said.

He also expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to lead the NCA.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to my colleagues at the NCA and to partners across the telecom and ICT sectors for their collaboration and support,” he said.

“Together, we advanced rural connectivity and laid a strong foundation for South Sudan’s digital transformation.”

He congratulated his successor, Mr. Gieth Kon Mathiang, for earning President Kiir’s trust in his appointment as the new director general.

“To the people of South Sudan, thank you for your trust and for embracing the vision to expand and improve communication services across our country. I now look forward to the next chapter of service.”

Napoleon Adok had held the position since 2020 and was instrumental in expanding digital infrastructure and implementing key regulatory frameworks intended to modernize South Sudan’s telecom industry.

Under his leadership, the NCA launched initiatives to improve mobile connectivity, oversee licensing compliance, and promote local innovation in ICT.

However, his tenure was also marked by criticism over high data costs and limited access to internet services in rural areas.
