The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, commended the students for their outstanding achievement at the East Africa Debate Championship held in neighboring Uganda.

“South Sudan is now on the map, and we must keep it there. That is our responsibility, and it is your responsibility. You must ensure that South Sudan leads both within and beyond the region,” Kuyok said.

“We will continue to support you in raising the flag of South Sudan in the region and beyond. It is about critical thinking, engaging in respectful conversations, and enhancing human rights,” he added.

Kuyok stated that the debate competition enhances students’ ability to learn various subjects. A person who excels in debate is often expected to perform well in all subjects, including mathematics.

“We are moving towards a qualification system in education. We are now part of East Africa, and our aim in joining is to foster integration, including political integration, so that people can exceed what is required,” he explained.

The Ministry of General Education and Instruction celebrated South Sudanese students’ victory in the East Africa Debate Championship, themed “Empowering Minds, Elevating Nations: Celebrating South Sudan Students’ Debate Victory.”

The East Africa Debate Championship aims to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their eloquence, critical thinking, and public speaking skills within a framework of commitment to education.
