The national Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, said  that the transitional government of national unity is implementing a strategy to cultivate a sustainable and profitable agricultural sector in the country.

“Currently, we are intensifying our focus on food production in Jonglei State. We have made a strategic decision to enhance the agricultural sector beyond our current efforts,” Akol said on Tuesday in a release from Jonglei.

“We are building a sustainable and profitable agricultural sector in Jonglei State through a holistic approach, modernizing farming techniques, promoting agribusiness, improving market access for farmers, and implementing inclusive growth policies,” he said.

Onyeti Adigo Nyikuec, the national Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, commended Riek Gai Kok, the governor of Jonglei State, for his proactive policies and investments aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and food security.

“The administration of His Excellency, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, is steadfast in its mission to catalyze an agricultural revolution in Jonglei State, harnessing the region’s rich potential and comparative advantage in agricultural production,” said Nyikuec.

Dr. Riek Gai Kok, the governor of Jonglei State, stated that the state government has requested a multidisciplinary team of experts, including representatives from key agencies, institutions, and allied sectors, to help boost food production.

“The Jonglei government encourages young people to explore opportunities within the agriculture and fishery sectors and their value chains. The team of experts is poised to deliver a plan that will yield measurable and sustainable benefits for the people of Jonglei State and beyond,” said Kok.

“With this bold initiative, Jonglei State is firmly on the path to achieving a sustainable agricultural transformation, unlocking its potential to become a hub for food production in South Sudan and the global market.”

The visits of the two ministers, Akol and Nyikuec, on Monday provided an opportunity for the state government to strengthen cooperation, discuss areas of mutual interest, and explore strategic collaborations to support the sustainable development of Jonglei’s agriculture sector and fishery industry.
