The First Deputy Chairperson and Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. James Wani Igga, On Tuesday announced the formation of a 13-member fact-finding committee to investigate the recent fire incident at the secretariat.
The fire, which occurred at approximately 12:47 PM on Saturday, damaged part of the prefabricated offices and destroyed several documents.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The committee is headed by Jashinto Pakon, SPLM National Secretary for Administration and Finance, with Major Michael Achol, SPLM National Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization, and Organization, and Jimmy Atilio, Acting Secretary for Culture, Information, and Communication, serving as deputies. Additionally, the committee includes 10 members from various law enforcement agencies and relevant security organizations.
Dr. Igga tasked the committee with determining the cause of the fire and assessing the damage to the property.
He directed them to develop a detailed report of their findings and present it to the leadership within seven days from the date of the committee’s formation.
“The SPLM senior leadership established the Fact-Finding and Investigation Committee to uncover the cause of the fire outbreak that engulfed part of the SPLM National Secretariat, causing significant damage on Saturday, 10th May 2025, at around 12:47 PM,” the order reads.
Igga refuted claims that he knew the suspect responsible for the fire incident, emphasizing that the committee would investigate to identify the individual behind it.
He also cautioned social media users to disregard any misinformation circulating about the incident.
