The newly appointed Commissioner of Akobo County James Kueth Makuach,  has pledged to bring tangible benefits to grassroots communities.

“I will work closely with the communities in Akobo to foster development and unity, regardless of political differences. My goal is to promote peace, stability, and development, and I am committed to collaborating with all stakeholders,” Makuach said during his swearing-in ceremony on Monday in Bor, Jonglei State.

Donge Gai Donge, the newly appointed Commissioner for the Revenue Authority, was sworn in and stated his commitment to enhancing revenue collection for the state. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Municipality Mayor, County Commissioners, and relevant authorities.

Riek Gai Kok, the governor of Jonglei, expressed his expectation that the new leaders would prioritize his “People First” approach, focusing on community welfare while upholding transparency and accountability throughout the state.

Governor Kok tasked the new officials with boosting community development, addressing infrastructure gaps, and improving public service delivery within their local government administrations.

“The accomplishment of your tasks will demonstrate your ability to fulfill campaign promises. I extend my gratitude to the people of Jonglei state for their trust and pray for strength to carry out your duties,” Kok said.

Amer Ateny Alier, the speaker of the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, advised the Commissioner for Akobo County to maintain direct communication with the State Government and local government structures, rather than relying solely on political party connections.

“Let us unite to support the new commissioner of Akobo County. Collaboration among all parties and communities is essential to tackle insecurity and advance development,” said Ateny.

Last week, Makuach was appointed as the new commissioner of Akobo County, replacing Puok Nyang Tutjiek, who was suspended in April 2025 by the governor of Jonglei State, Riek Gai Kok, for leaving the county without permission from the state authorities.
