"We Dare where others fear"

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) on Wednesday, incinerated two trucks filled with expired and substandard goods that were seized during an inspection campaign in Juba last year.
These items were confiscated in September 2024 as part of an initiative by the Quality Assurance Department aimed at removing expired, damaged, counterfeit, and substandard products from the market.
The inspection exercise targeted factories, supermarkets, shops, stores, slaughterhouses, and other businesses.
Ms. Stella Juan Angelo, Acting Director for Quality Assurance of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, reported that the items confiscated and destroyed on Wednesday included beverages, food items, Pampers, infant milk, and lotions.
“We are collecting items from the market to take to the dumping site. These include both food and non-food products,” Juan told journalists on Wednesday.
Juan warned traders against importing and selling substandard products in the markets.
“We have collected goods from the Juba market in collaboration with the South Sudanese Bureau of Standards and Inspectors. These products have varying expiration dates,” she explained.
She noted that they began collecting these products from markets in September 2024 and stored them in their office in Juba.
“Today, we decided to proceed with the disposal of these products with the assistance of Rajaf Payam, which has designated land for dumping in that area.”
She assured the public that the regulatory body is working diligently to ensure that only safe and suitable products enter the country for human consumption.
“Expired items are no longer of good quality, and when we discuss quality, it pertains to the risks they pose to health and well-being.”
