The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) announced yesterday that it has returned 2,000 cartons of substandard laundry soap to neighboring Uganda.

The consignment was seized at the Nimule border entry point for failing to meet the required quality standards.

The regulatory body announced the confiscation of a truckload of maize flour that was found to contain aflatoxin levels exceeding permissible limits.

In a statement on Thursday, the SSNBS reported that it identified and rejected two non-compliant consignments: one consisting of 2,000 cartons of laundry washing soap that did not meet the required quality standards, and the aforementioned truckload of maize flour.

These items were seized during routine inspection and testing activities at the Nimule Port of Entry.

The regulatory body reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and consumer safety by ensuring that all imported products meet national standards.

As a result, both consignments were ordered to be re-exported to their country of origin in accordance with established procedures.

The SSNBS remains dedicated to allowing only safe, high-quality, and standards-compliant products into the South Sudanese market.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to our enforcement partners, stakeholders, and the public for their continued support and collaboration in upholding the nation’s quality infrastructure.”
