Senior Presidential Advisor Eng. Kuol Manyang Juuk said  on Thursday that the 2026 general election will take place, regardless of the country’s security challenges.

Originally set for December 2024, the elections have been postponed to December 2026 due to delays in completing the national census, drafting a permanent constitution, registering political parties, and implementing necessary security reforms.

“We are determined to ensure that elections are conducted on time,” Kuol stated during the inauguration of the State High Office in Juba on Thursday.

He emphasized that the issues facing the country would be addressed to facilitate the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.

“The problems we are experiencing are common in countries gaining independence. This occurs in many nations,” he noted.

Kuol expressed confidence that the environment would be made conducive for the 2026 elections.

“When you go on social media, it can be frightening. However, here in Juba, I believe elections can be held peacefully,” he remarked.

“I assure you that the situation in other states is also stable, and elections can be conducted there as well.”

He reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to addressing security concerns in Nasir, Upper Nile State.

“I am confident that we will conduct the elections in a peaceful environment. There was a conflict in Nasir, involving individuals associated with the White Army—young people who are unsure of their direction.”

He indicated plans to encourage refugees to return home to participate in the 2026 elections.

“We are working diligently to persuade those who sought refuge to come back. We are making significant progress. We are supporting young people, and there is now peace, which must be protected.”
