President Kiir Appoints Former Governor Sarah Cleto as New Minister of Health

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Sarah Cleto Rial, the former Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, as the new Minister of Health.

In a decree read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir named Sarah Cleto as the replacement for Yolanda Awel Deng, who was dismissed three months ago.

In another decree, Boutros Biel was removed from his position as Commissioner of Fangak County in Jonglei State, and Johnson Kuol Gai has been appointed as the new commissioner.

The peace deal give  the president the prerogative to appoint and dismiss government officials at both the national and state levels.

He can appoint and dismiss officials from other political parties only with the consent of their party leadership.
