"We Dare where others fear"

The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative has graduated 150 community members in Juba in entrepreneurship and conflict resolution to mitigate conflict and enhance peaceful coexistence among communities.
Gama Hussein, the deputy country director of the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, stated that the initiative was launched to improve the economic situation, mitigate rising conflict, and promote peaceful coexistence among communities.
“We want to ensure that communities live peacefully for sustainable development. This cannot be achieved without the engagement of different actors; we involve everyone at every level to be part of the struggle for peace,” said Hussein.
“We train people to be economically independent and to participate in peacebuilding. Unless people meet their basic needs, especially in our violent environment, where there are many ways to perpetrate violence, peace will remain elusive,” he added.
Larissa Beuter, the program manager at Swiss Development Cooperation, emphasized Switzerland’s commitment to a better future for the people of South Sudan.
“I believe women entrepreneurs are some of the most hardworking individuals. You take care of your family members while still participating in training. You are going to be leaders in your families and communities, and you have a bright future ahead,” said Beuter.
“The SDC strongly supports economic empowerment, women’s empowerment, and youth empowerment to help women succeed, promote peace, and create a better future for all of us,” she concluded.
