Stronger Partnerships Key to South Sudan’s Economic Stability, says Finance Ministry

The Director of Communication and Media in the Ministry of Finance, Tek Stephen Ogut, emphasized the importance of international cooperation, stating it reflects the government’s strong commitment to sustained global partnerships.

He noted that such collaboration is essential for advancing development priorities and ensuring economic stability in South Sudan.

Speaking to the media at Juba International Airport on Tuesday, upon the arrival of the Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater, after participating in the 60th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank, where he explored areas of partnership and cooperation in the region, Stephen said the country’s participation in the meeting aims to strengthen partnerships and cooperation with other states.

“It’s crucial because it underscores the government’s commitment to continued global partnership and cooperation, a strengthened partnership, advanced development priorities, and the economic stability of South Sudan,” Stephen said.

Stephen mentioned that the minister held sideline meetings with various officials aimed at boosting bilateral ties with member states, including South Africa, the United Kingdom, Canada, Zimbabwe, Japan, and the Netherlands.

“The minister also held meetings with international financial institutions and senior leadership, including the African Development Bank, African Import and Export Bank, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank officials,” he said.

He added that the delegation deliberated on critical matters revolving around challenges facing global financial development, the annual review of the African Development Bank’s performance, and the reinforcement of regional collaboration among AfDB’s Eastern Africa constituency.

Minister Dongrin was accompanied by the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Johnny Ohisa, and the Governor of the African Development Bank in South Sudan.

The meeting held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 6th to 30th May 2025, brought together 5,000 attendees, including heads of state and government, finance ministers, central bank governors, business leaders, and others.

The summit offered a platform to explore reforms and policies aimed at enhancing the efficiency of human, financial, and business resources in Africa.

The annual meeting concluded with the election of Mr. Sidi Ould Tah as the 9th President of the African Development Bank, replacing Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, who served for 10 years.
