“These included two trucks of sorghum infested with live insects and three trucks of maize flour containing aflatoxin levels above the permissible limits—posing a serious risk to public health,” the SSNBS said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
It reiterated the regulatory body’s commitment to safeguarding public health and consumer safety by enforcing national quality standards on all imported goods.
“As part of ongoing inspection and compliance efforts, the SSNBS has facilitated the re-exportation of five trucks carrying non-compliant consignments through the Nimule Port of Entry.”
It called on all importers, partners, stakeholders, and the general public to adhere strictly to national quality and safety regulations.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that only safe, high-quality, and standard-compliant products enter the South Sudanese market.”
The regulatory body was established to ensure that imports meet the requirements of technical regulations and applicable standards, thereby preventing the importation of substandard goods.
