President Salva Kiir Mayardit has voiced strong concern over persistent financial misconduct within government institutions, specifically regarding the illegal solicitation of 10 percent kickbacks in financial dealings.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, and his deputy, Samuel Yanga Mikaya, on Wednesday, President Kiir expressed serious concern over ongoing financial malpractices, specifically condemning the illegal solicitation of “10 percent” kickbacks in financial dealings.
In a statement posted on the Presidential Press Unit’s official Facebook page, President Kiir warned that any official found engaging in such conduct would face the maximum penalty.
“Such unseemly behavior is intolerable and will not be allowed to go unpunished,” the President stated, directing the Financial Intelligence Unit to intensify its oversight role and report any malpractices to his office regularly.
He also urged the new leadership to serve with integrity, fairness, and efficiency in order to bring about real change and restore public trust in the financial sector.
The President called for urgent action to instill transparency, accountability, and discipline within the institution.
President Kiir tasked the newly appointed Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, with spearheading reforms aimed at restoring best practices and strengthening governance at the Central Bank.
