The Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, on Friday suspended the Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS), Gloria Nyoka Joseph, over allegations of misappropriation of funds and misconduct.
Ms. Gloria Nyoka has been accused of mismanagement of resources, divisive politics, and undermining the minister, according to a ministerial order issued on Friday.
According to the order, the regulatory executive director has been suspended from office until the pending investigations are completed.
Aldo Upiou Juady, senior director general, is to act on her behalf, and the security organs are directed to ensure this order is implemented immediately.
“This ministerial order No. 12/2025 for the suspension of Hon. Executive Director Gloria Nyoka Joseph of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards for mismanagement of resources, divisive politics, and undermining the minister,” the order partly reads.
In early March 2024, President Salva Kiir reshuffled the leadership of the bureau, appointing Dr. Kuorwel Kuai Kuorwel as the new chairperson of the SSNBS Council and Gloria Nyoka Joseph as the executive director.
Kiir later relieved Dr. Kuorwel Kuai Kuorwel of his position as chairperson of the SSNBS Council without appointing a replacement.
In a separate order, the minister also suspended the ministry’s undersecretary, John Achier Manyuat, over alleged insubordination, indiscipline, and intimidation.
“This ministerial order shall be cited as ministerial order No. 11/2025 for the suspension of Hon. Undersecretary for insubordination, indiscipline, and intimidation,” the order reads.
Mr. Leo Okwahi Luku, director general, has been appointed to act as undersecretary, and the security organs are directed to ensure this order is implemented.
