Lakes State Government Organises Training on Public Procurement

The Minister for Finance, Planning, and Investment of Lakes State, Hon. Majok Anhiem Dhal, officiated a training session on public procurement, covering general principles and practices as well as the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act (PPDAA).

The Minister for Finance, Planning, and Investment of Lakes State, Hon. Majok Anhiem Dhal, officiated a training session on public procurement, covering general principles and practices as well as the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act (PPDAA).

This Board was established on 17th February 2023 by H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, followed by the appointment of the executive directors and members of the Board of Directors of the authority.

“The authority was inaugurated on 21st March 2023 by the national minister of finance. According to Section 9 (E) of the PPDAA Act 2018, the authority is empowered to establish offices in all states and three administrative areas to assist each state and local government in establishing a robust public procurement and disposal of assets system, ensuring compliance with the principles and provisions of the Act” Dhal said during the opening  of  the training on Monday.

Mr. Matiop Aguek, UNDP Economic Governance Analyst, siad  that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is supporting states and three administrative areas in public procurement efforts.

“A committee was formed in each state in 2024 by the national finance authority and all states and administrative areas. It is the government’s full responsibility to create training opportunities for capacity building to address gaps in economic production. The UNDP aims to empower this committee to work effectively and efficiently, thereby assisting the government across the country”

Mr. Mabor Kau Akec, the state chairman of the committee for the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act (PPDAA), noted that the state has established a public procurement committee composed of eight members.

“Representatives from various institutions will return to their workplaces to share the knowledge they acquired during this training, serving as trainers”
