The leadership of Other Political Parties has challenged Peter Mayen Majongdit, the chairperson of the People’s Liberal Party, for exclusively criticising the recent restructuring of the new High-Level Ad Hoc Committee due to a lack of consultation.

On June 4, 2025, President Salva Kiir reconstituted the High-Level Ad Hoc Committee on the Implementation of the Revitalised Agreement, naming Senior Presidential Advisor Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk as the chairperson, deputised by Lasuba Ludoru Wongo, and Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro as the Secretary General.

Mayen Jeremiah Turic, the spokesperson of the Other Political Parties, said the umbrella of other political parties rejected the statement issued by Peter Mayen Majongdit regarding the structuring of the High-Level Ad Hoc Committee.

“Therefore, Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit has no authority or legitimacy to speak or act on behalf of OPP, and any actions taken or statements made by him in the name of OPP must be disregarded in totality,” said Turic.

“We urge all parties to the revitalised peace agreement, as well as the national and international communities, to take note that Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit is no longer associated with the leadership of the OPP,” he added.

Peter Mayen Majongdit, the chairperson of the People’s Liberal Party, while decrying the lack of genuine consultation in decision-making, stated that the signatory parties need dialogue to salvage the revitalised peace agreement.

“The restructuring process conspicuously lacks genuine consultation with the principal signatories to the R-ARCSS; the legitimate leadership of the SPLM-IO and the OPP were not consulted in the nomination of members to the High-Level Ad Hoc Committee,” said Majongdit in a statement.

“The names of the principal leaders and signatories to the agreement are explicitly mentioned in the agreement itself. Any attempt to eliminate or sideline any of the five designated principals constitutes a clear and unacceptable violation of the revitalised agreement,” he added.

James Adhal Kot, the executive director for the umbrella of other political parties, stated that Peter Mayen Majongdit, the chairperson of the People’s Liberal Party, is still the chairman of the umbrella.

“I would like to assure you that Mayen Majongdit is still the chairman of the umbrella. There is a difference between government institutions and political party institutions. Mayen was only removed from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, so Mayen is still a principal of OPP,” said Kot.

“In principle, we take one year to hold a convention, and that convention is where we determine whether a chairman continues or not. The umbrella of political parties has not convened any convention to dismiss Mayen Majongdit from the leadership,” said Kot.
