The executive director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS), Gloria Nyoka Joseph, returned to work on Thursday after being suspended for one week due to allegations of corruption and indiscipline.
Atong Kuol Manyang, Minister of Trade and Industry, suspended SSNBS boss Gloria Nyoka Joseph last week for alleged misappropriation of resources, unprocedural and divisive politics, and undermining the minister.
The order stated that Nyoka is suspended pending investigations and that Aldo Upiou Juady, a senior director general, will act on her behalf.
Mr. Rout Doubol Duop, Director General for Administration and Finance of the National Bureau of Standards, confirmed that the executive director had resumed her duties on Thursday morning.
“We would like to notify all stakeholders and the public that Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph, the executive director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, has resumed her duties and functions with effect from 19th June 2025,” the letter seen by the Dawn partly reads.
It noted that the matter leading to her suspension was resolved by the concerned authorities, without providing further details.
“SSNBS reiterates its commitment to continue executing its mandate in protecting consumers, safeguarding the health and safety of all citizens, and the national economy against substandard and counterfeit goods.”
The regulatory body was established in 2012 to ensure that imports meet the requirements of the technical regulations and applicable standards and to prevent the importation of substandard goods.
