The High Court on Friday scheduled July 4, 2025, for the final submission in the labour dispute involving UAP Insurance Company and its former dismissed national staff, following the testimony of the second witness for the defence.

Marko Reech, the lawyer representing the dismissed UAP staff, stated that Friday’s session was dedicated to hearing the testimony of the second witness from UAP, who is a director at the Ministry of Labour.

“Today, the company was presenting their witness. We have come to verify the matter, including when it started and the procedures they went through. We have been given two weeks to make our final submission, which is due on July 4, 2025,” said Reech.

“The session was solely for the examination of the defence witness number two. We have proceeded with both the examination and the cross-examination. The witness is the director of the ministry’s Labour Department,” he said.

In September 2023, the national staff of UAP Insurance Company staged a strike over what they termed an unfair working environment and poor payment of local staff, leading to the sacking of 57 employees.

In an effort to resolve the matter, the Ministry of Labour intervened on October 6, 2023, issuing directives to UAP management to reinstate the unlawfully dismissed staff and to consider a proposed salary increase.

The case was filed in June 2024 by the sacked members of the National Staff Association of UAP, marking a significant step in a prolonged dispute between the former staff and UAP management.
