MTN South Sudan has officially inaugurated a newly established ICT Hub for the Mangateen Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp community in Juba. This initiative marks the culmination of the company’s annual 21 Days of Yello Care staff volunteer programme.

Mapula Bodibe, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN South Sudan, stated that the project aims to empower the underserved community of Mangateen, adding that the ICT facility would bridge digital gaps and provide residents with access to opportunities enjoyed elsewhere in the world.

“This ICT hub opens the door to the digital ecosystem for both learners and the broader community; access to technology is essential for education, health, and socio-economic development,” said Bodibe on Monday at the Mangateen Internally Displaced Camp in Juba.

Bodibe explained that one of the key features of the centre is the “Internet of Good Things portal,” which will provide access to vital information on health, protection, and human rights.

Wadar Kei Daap, the head teacher of Mangateen Primary School, stated that MTN’s donations of computers and equipment to the school will benefit both teachers and learners.

“The support from MTN South Sudan highlights the power of public-private partnerships in driving progress in South Sudan. We call for MTN to further assist with the school’s fencing, gate, and the provision of a printer to ensure the security and utility of the centre,” said Daap.

David Yau Yau, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, praised MTN’s decision to focus on Mangateen, calling it a blessing and a significant step in addressing digital inequality.

Yau Yau remarked that MTN South Sudan has made a visible impact, adding that the government supports the partnership with MTN South Sudan and the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services.

“The Ministry of General Education needs to play a more active role in supporting schools built with local materials, like Mangateen Academy, and there is also a need for better coordination with the Central Equatoria State Government,” he said.
