The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has initiated the zoning of Juba City for the registration of taxpayers, aiming to provide accurate data that will support tax base expansion and strategic decision-making.

Simon Akuei Deng, the Commissioner General of the SSRA, said  that the zoning and registration of taxpayers in Juba City is part of ongoing efforts to enhance domestic revenue mobilisation and taxpayer compliance.

“This exercise involves dividing Juba City into ten operational zones, where SSRA registration officials will conduct free, door-to-door taxpayer registration for all businesses, service providers, and self-employed individuals operating within the city,” Deng said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The SSRA emphasises that taxpayer registration is completely free of charge. No individual or agent is authorised to request or collect payment on behalf of the SSRA during this process,” he added.

Deng warned that anyone found engaging in the unauthorised collection of fees or impersonating SSRA officials will be reported to the relevant authorities and prosecuted.

He outlined that Juba is divided into ten zones: Zone 1 includes Juba Town, Kator, and Konyokonyo; Zone 2 comprises Giada, Suk Sita, Atlabara, and Lologo on the outskirts of Juba

City; Zone 4 covers Gumbo Shirikat; Zone 5 includes Munuki; Zone 8 contains Hai Referendum and New Site; Zone 9 is designated for UN and diplomatic missions; and Zone 10 encompasses Gurei, Jebel Dinka, and Luri.

Deng affirmed that the SSRA is committed to ensuring that every eligible business and taxpayer embraces transparency and fairness in the tax system to strengthen service delivery and tax administration.

“Zoning and taxpayer registration is a key step in improving tax fairness and public service delivery in South Sudan. We encourage full cooperation from all residents and business owners in Juba.”
