The Pan-African Peacemakers Alliance (PAPA) has called on humanitarian organisations and international partners to prioritise the protection and support of displaced women and children affected by the recent wave of hostilities in the country.

The organisation emphasised the urgent need for coordinated action to safeguard the most vulnerable, as displacement figures continue to rise.

PAPA expressed grave concern over the suffering of women and children in Panyijiar due to the recent bombardment in the Greater Nile region, which has displaced over 39,000 residents from the Packiejok, Pachak, and Pachar areas in Panyijiar County, Unity State.

The organisation is deeply troubled by the conditions these women and children are facing, as many have lost their belongings or had them destroyed during the hostilities.

PAPA urged humanitarian partners, including donors and national humanitarian organisations, to remember their commitment to provide assistance to those affected.

It noted that the displaced women and children lack food, water, medicine, shelter, and other basic necessities.

“We appeal to humanitarian partners to provide assistance to women and children in hard-to-reach areas and regions affected by recent hostilities,” PAPA stated.

The organisation also called on the South Sudan Humanitarian Fund, under the UN OCHA, to expedite the process for national humanitarian partners to intervene quickly, as life is increasingly difficult in the affected locations.

Finally, PAPA urged the government to uphold its commitments to peace and work towards lasting peace for the people of South Sudan, regardless of their race, ethnicity, background, language, or tribe.
