The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, General Chol Thon Balok on Monday, led a high-level inspection of 60 trucks loaded with assorted food supplies for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).
The inspection took place at a military logistics base in Juba, marking a significant government effort to enhance the welfare of troops stationed across the country.
General Chol was accompanied by former Army Chief, General Dr. Paul Nang, and the Acting Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, General Garang Ayii Akol, who also serves as the Director General for Procurement at the Ministry of Defence. The supplies, procured through Galda Limited Company, were coordinated in collaboration with the Office of the President.
After the inspection, General Garang Ayii Akol spoke to reporters, emphasising that the consignment would be distributed to all SSPDF divisions, independent brigades, and the General Headquarters without delay.
“These food items are meant to directly support our troops in the field,” General Garang said. “We will ensure a fair and timely distribution process so that every soldier, regardless of their location, receives the support they need.”
He issued a stern warning against any form of corruption or diversion of supplies, stating that personnel found guilty of smuggling or misusing the food items would face severe punishment.
“I want to make it very clear: any officer or non-commissioned officer caught smuggling these food items to the market will face the full force of the law,” he warned.
Engineer Yar Musa Dut, representing Galda Limited Company, confirmed that additional food shipments were en route from Kampala.
“We are expecting more trucks to arrive in the coming days with similar supplies,” she said.
This inspection is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening logistical support and improving the living conditions of the nation’s armed forces.
